Intranet is a separate internal company network based on the Internet solutions. The access to the Intranet resources is allowed only in certain points of the network. Put differently, Intranet is a company’s internal network connecting, for instance, computers in the company and its departments. Being an internal computer network, it uses the same communication protocol as the Internet, that is, the TCP/IP protocol. It enables to make the internal resources available within the company or institution, just like in case of the Internet, but on a much smaller scale. Intranet does not have to have access to the Internet. However, if it has, than it is resolved the way that the external users do not have access to the company’s Intranet.

     Extranet is a part of a widely available computer network (Internet for example) separated and secured against unauthorized access. It is usually used for communication purposes between institutions or companies bound, for instance, with commercial relations.
